Not sure whether to self-host? If you want to be running this month with nothing to maintain, start on a cloud plan. Pick the licence when the data has to sit on your own infrastructure, or when you plan to sell exams under your own brand.
What is a credit
A credit is one AI-graded answer. You only spend credits on the grading the AI actually does.

So Starter's 2,000 credits cover about 2,000 typed answers, and Pro's 20,000 cover about 20,000 typed answers, or proportionally fewer image-based ones.
On Starter, image and handwritten answers don't use AI at all. They route straight to teacher review, so nothing is skipped and no credits are spent.
Need more mid-month? Top up any time at $1 = 100 credits and the balance is added instantly.
Run out of credits? Grading is never blocked and answers are never auto-zeroed. Any answers beyond your balance route to pending teacher review, so you stay in control.
